If you enjoy Brené and her work, I think you’ll enjoy the book as much as I did. It’s a quick-reading, inspiring look at the four practices for discovering and living from that deep sense of true belonging. Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging. I loved this book as much as I did the others. A soft and open front is not being weak its being brave, its being the wilderness. I think the reason why Brené is so popular and such a powerful teacher is that she’s such a powerful EXEMPLAR of the very things she studies and teaches: courageous, vulnerable, whole-hearted living. My hunch is you’ve probably heard of and/or watched her TED Talk on “ The Power of Vulnerability”-which is one of the top 5 most-viewed TED talks ever, with 30 million views. (We currently have Notes on two of those… Need to get to Rising Strong! :) She’s spent the last 15+ years studying courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy and is the author of three #1 NY Times bestsellers: The Gifts of Imperfection, Rising Strong and Daring Greatly. Which demands “braving the wilderness.”īrené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston. First step: We need to know that requires a trip into the hero’s forest of the unknown. Helping us navigate our quests for true belonging is what the book is all about. That sense of connection to yourself and to others that’s authentic, vulnerable, and courageous.

The beginning is basically a FAQ, with popular questions about Cainites. I figured it would be like the Storyteller's Companion, where it was a lot of overflow that wouldn't fit in the corebook, and in a sense that's true, but the Storyteller's Guide is much more focused and coherent than the hodge-podge of material in the companion. The only things I really remembered were the Baali and the True Brujah and a few other vague bits like the maturation rules. This book turned out much better than I expected based on my few memories of it. * Outlines suggestions for alternate character creatio, historical settings and chronicle creation. * Presents a Vampire FAQ, details for the True Hand, crossovers with other World of Darkness games and other secrets of storytelling Vampire Storytellers Handbook includes systems for rare bloodlines, Disciplines and elder vampires The Vampire Storytellers Handbook revised edition leaves no stone unturned - except those that hide secrets no mortal should know. Every year when the leaves start falling from the trees and the clocks go back, my eyes start to drift towards the Bradbury volumes on my bookshelf. From the moment I discovered two volumes of Bradbury short stories in the dusty, old-fashioned mobile library that used to visit my street every Tuesday - a wonder-filled anachronism-on-wheels, overseen by an enigmatic white-haired man, the whole thing itself straight out of a Bradbury story - I was hooked. One of my favorite characters from this novel is actually who I call the villain: JBF, the American president. The premise is pretty much: What would happen to the human race if the moon suddenly exploded into multiple chunks, and the debris rained down on Earth? The rest is planning out the survival of the humans, and how to keep them from going extinct. I almost forgot how much that I loved Sci-Fi with all of the Fantasy that I have been reading until I started Seveneves. The premise of Seveneves is one of the most captivating ones that I have experienced in a long while. I read the back cover at a Barnes and Noble and went “ Yup!” I’ll take this one. Seveneves is the introduction to his works for me, and one of the few novels that I picked up without knowing anything about beforehand. For the High Priest Konig, that means creating order out of the chaos in his city-state, leading his believers to focus on one thing: helping a young man, Morgen, ascend to become a god. Sustained by their own belief-and the beliefs of those around them-they can manipulate their surroundings. Me: But you could tell Jay before you ran off alone in the vicinity of where a killer has been, right? The dead bodies call to me! I can’t help it! And then he gets mad at me, just like you do. Anyway, you learned something from that experience, right? Like…to not wander off by yourself? In the dark? Where dead bodies are? Me: Yeah, I guess that would’ve been bad.
